Charles Eric Maine
the original
technothriller writer This is
my site devoted to an interesting,
but currently neglected, English science fiction writer.
Charles Eric
Maine was the pseudonym of David McIlwain, who wrote technothrillers before
the term was invented! Here is a detailed
bibliography of his work. See the covers of
many of Maine's books in the Book Cover
Gallery
-- featuring work by such classic artists
as Richard Powers, Gerard Quinn, and Ed
Emshwiller ("Emsh").

Concord
Rebel Henry David Thoreau is the
main inspiration
behind Walden East. This site has information about this multi-faceted author,
environmentalist, philosopher, and inventor of "civil
disobedience". And Thoreau usually had something to
say -- short and sharp! For a selection of quotable
remarks, link through to the Thoreau Quote Page.

August Derleth
The Only Place We Live Introducing the
neglected American writer August Derleth. The name of the site
comes from a quote that Derleth used as the title of one of his books.
He valued above all things the landscape, history, and people of the
Sauk City / Prairie du Sac area of Wisconsin where he was born and
spent nearly all of his life. The full quote is: "Love is the only place we live." This attitude informed his entire life and work.

Supernatural
Horror: Authors & Themes An archive
selection
from my own writing about classic authors and stories,
mainly
in the supernatural
horror field, and from the pulp era. I am particularly interested
in the work of August Derleth (see left),
Fritz Leiber, and Arthur Machen. These articles
were mostly originally published in various
society journals.
